In this paper, we study the diversity of pan-ethnic U.S. Latino enclaves in 1980, 1990, and 2000. We classify the Latino diversity existing in three types of enclaves: (1) burgeoning, (2) mega-, and (3) hyper-Latino. The aim of this study is to determine if Latino mega and hyper enclaves have diverse, pan-ethnic populations or if these types of neighborhoods tend to have homogenous populations. The findings suggest pan-ethnic mega and hyper enclaves do exist but they are a small portion of the total enclaves. The evidence points to an increasing trend in pan-ethnicity in mega and hyper enclaves.
