Domestic Migration Flows for States from the 2005 ACS

William K. Koerber, U.S. Census Bureau

State migration flow data have not been available from the Census Bureau since Census 2000. This paper uses 2005 American Community Survey (ACS) data to calculate and analyze more recent migration estimates between individual states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico as well as state-to-state migration flows. Besides comparing 1-year state migration estimates for the whole population, the paper will also examine the number of migrants and migration rates for the subpopulations of the foreign born, those 65 years and over, and the young, single, college educated.
