How Do Adolescent Mothers Fare in Later Life? Experiences from Urban vs. Rural Teen Mothers in Colombia, a Middle-Income Country

Adolescent motherhood is usually thought of as hindering young women´s Life Projects. In a cultural context where informal job seeking and “making a living” entrepreneurship is widespread, as in the city of Bogotá and neighbour counties, it would be expected that job outcomes for urban women who were teen mothers in later life would be different than those for rural women. We set out to do this by using DHS data and information gathered by medical and nursing student´s field work in the neighbour counties of our University, located in the rural municipality of Chia (21 km from Bogotá, capital of Colombia).
