Cohabitation versus Marriage: First Union Formation in Hungary

Using retrospective data from the Gender and Generations Survey for Hungary, wave 1 (Turning points of the life course, 2001), we study patterns of first union formation in Hungary, before and after 1990. Using competing risk models, we showed that level of education, cohort and origin family history play an important role in choosing between cohabitation and marriage as first unions.
